Day 120 - Principal John Lyons, Pine Glen Elementary School

Motion and Phonics:

Today during my walk throughs I saw Mrs. Babajtis working on consonant digraphs with her kindergarten students. Mrs. Babajtis was helping her students embed this knowledge into their long term memories by doing physical activity related to the individual phonetic sounds in a word.

Gross motor memory is very strong. This is why people never forget how to ride a bicycl

Day 74 - Principal John Lyons, Pine Glen Elementary

3rd Grade Math and Written Expression:

Today in Mrs. Lynch 3rd grade classroom I stopped by and saw students graphing weather data during math class and then using expository writing to explain the data. The lesson was addressing Common Core Curriculum for Math and English Language Arts. Students told me they were having a lot of fun and they were learning a great deal about data and charts.

Day 67 - Principal John Lyons, Pine Glen Elementary

5th Grade Ice Skating Program:

I would like to thank Ms. Govoni for again organizing and running a great Ice Skating Program for the fifth graders. I would also like to thank the Burlington Ice Palace for their continued support of the program and the parent volunteers who helped out too.

This program builds self esteem and confidence in students.  In addition, it introduces many students to a great sport they can do throughout their lives.  Likewise, the program further strengthens our 5th grade community.  It is a lot of fun!

Day 23 - John Lyons, Pine Glen Elementary School Principal

4th Grade Rocket Day

The fourth grade teachers, students and parents had a great time today at Rocket Day (check out all of the great pictures below).  With help from Ms. Pavlicek and Mr. Musselman from the Burlington Science Center students learned about such concepts as gravity, thrust and force.  Fourth graders also learned about Sir Isaac Newton (One of Mr. Musselman's favorite scientists).

Students greatly enjoyed launching their rockets and using their iPads to record the event.   Students walked away from this hands-on learning experience telling me that science and learning is fun.  The fourth grade teachers and I learned this first hand as we had a 'blast' launching our rockets.
